Another crisp fall day, another cloudless sky, another trip into the Safari Zone.

Eva left the majority of her goods with the Warden’s office and scooped up her allotted number of Safari Balls. This time a rather curious and playful Phione accompanied her on her hike. The little water type clung to her neck at the start, wide eyes darting all around the expansive preserve. Its topography and high concentration of wildlife both excited and worried the young pokemon.

“It’s going to be alright,” Eva cooed, gently patting the pokemon’s side, “Most of them are friendly,” not all of them, most of them.

The reassurance seemed to help the Phione calm down and be able to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the vast wilderness of the Safari Zone. Eva could feels the tension drifting away as the baby pokemon loosened their grip and drifted between her two shoulders.

It wasn’t long before the encountered their first wild pokemon. The little Cufant was hard to miss. They heard the quiet trumpet from its snout when it huffed in frustration before they even saw it. Eva cautiously rounded the corner and found the little pokemon standing on its hind legs, struggling to stretch its snout far enough to pluck a ripe Cheri Berry off the tree beside the path. It seemed more scared of them then Phione of it when they made themselves known.

“Hey there, you hungry?’ Eva asked in a gentle voice, leaning over to make herself seam less intimidating. The steel type took a step back and glance cautiously between them and the Cheri Berry.

“Phione, why don’t you help them out? A little WATER PULSE should loosen it up enough to drop it.”

With a little encouragement, the water-type let out a little pulse of water, then another. A third one finally smacked the berry off the branch. It fell into the happy Cufant’s waiting grasp. They gobbled it up in no time and trumpeted in delight, “Plenty more where that came from!” Eva smiles, tossing a Safari Ball at the waiting Cufant.

Once the Cufant was tucked away safely, the two continued on their journey. They maybe got about three steps before a Pidove swooped down from the tree with a QUICK ATTACK. It seemed upset they didn’t get a treat as well.

“Uh-oh!” Eva gasped, grabbing Phione and tucking them safely under their arms. She hunched over and shielded the baby with her body while she dashed away, leaving the Pidove hangry.
